Illustrated bookmark featuring the Cortina windmill in Collioure, hand-drawn by Marie Troff.

The Cortina windmill is the oldest windmill in Roussillon, built in 1337, restored in 2001, and converted into an olive oil mill. It overlooks Collioure from the hill, with its wooden sails, dry stone walls, and the Mediterranean below. It cannot be seen from the port: you have to climb to find it, which makes it the Collioure of those who truly know the village.

I drew it from the path to Fort Saint-Elme, amidst the olive trees, with the Catalan port in the background. It was this framing that made me want to make it into a bookmark; the verticality of the mill lends itself perfectly to the format.

The ideal bookmark for a book about Catalonia, the history of Roussillon, or simply your holiday novel on the Côte Vermeille. It also makes a lovely small gift, to slip into an envelope with a card or to offer as a souvenir of Collioure without the budget of a poster.

This illustration also exists as a Collioure Moulin de la Cortina poster from A4 to B0, and as a postcard to send or frame.

How I hand-draw each poster in the Pyrénées-Orientales

Foliove is my daily work. I create each illustration by hand, from my studio nestled in the Pyrénées-Orientales. Wacom, stylus, patience. No digital shortcuts, no images found anywhere other than in my souvenir photos, no effects applied with a click. Each line is consciously drawn, starting from a blank screen.

Printing is done nearby, at an Imprim'Vert certified printer in Elne. This is no coincidence: I can check the colors in person, adjust if necessary, and discuss directly with the team. They prioritize solvent-free inks and certified paper. It's a relationship, not just an order.

My subjects are born from my travels. A shade of the sky, a detail of a facade, a season frozen in an instant. I transpose them into drawings once I return, often long afterward. It's my way of preserving these moments and offering them to those, like you, who look at them.
