Our Concrete Commitments, Not Empty Promises

Many brands claim to be eco-responsible without proof. We prefer to describe exactly what we do, including the names of our partners, our certifications, and the specific choices that structure our production. Here you will find Foliove's verifiable commitments, without marketing jargon.

1. Entirely French Manufacturing

Design, Printing, Packaging, Shipping: All in France

The four production stages of each Foliove poster take place on French territory:

  • Design: Hand-drawn by Marie Troff in her workshop in Saint-Genis-des-Fontaines (66740)
  • Printing: Entrusted to an Imprim'Vert certified printer in Elne, 20 minutes from the workshop
  • Packaging: Hand-done in the workshop, without intermediaries
  • Shipping: Handled by La Poste / Colissimo from the Saint-Genis post office

No part of the chain leaves national territory. No on-demand printing delegated to an American or Asian platform, no international subcontracting.

For textiles sewn by Clémentine Troff, the fabrics may come from Portugal (selected fabric by fabric from nearby French wholesalers), but the manufacturing itself is entirely carried out in Saint-Genis.

2. Printing with an Imprim'Vert Partner in Occitania

What Exactly Does the Imprim'Vert Label Guarantee?

Our partner printer is Imprim'Vert certified, an environmental label created in 1998 by the Chambre des Métiers et de l'Artisanat. To obtain this label, a printer must comply with three strict criteria, verified annually:

  • Compliant elimination of hazardous waste (used inks, solvents, soiled rags)
  • Securing the storage of hazardous liquids to prevent accidental spills
  • Non-use of products labeled CMR (Carcinogenic, Mutagenic, Reprotoxic) or toxic with a "T+" mention

In concrete terms, this means that the inks used for your Foliove posters are free of toxic solvents, and that printing waste is processed according to a controlled channel. No illegal dumping, no carcinogenic inks.

3. Fine Art Paper Designed to Last

Technical Characteristics of Our Papers

Our posters are printed on fine art matte coated paper from 170 g/m² depending on the format (different grammage for large formats such as B1 and B0), with the following characteristics:

  • Acid-free certified (neutral pH), to limit paper yellowing over time
  • High UV resistance, designed to limit color fading with light exposure
  • Estimated longevity of over 75 years under normal storage conditions (away from direct sunlight, in a dry environment)
  • Sourced from sustainably managed forests (FSC or PEFC label depending on references)

This choice of fine art paper is what distinguishes a true art print from a low-end poster print. It also justifies our prices: this paper costs 3 to 5 times more than standard printing paper.

4. Eco-Designed Packaging

No Unnecessary Plastic

Each order is carefully packaged, using only:

  • Recycled and recyclable cardboard tube, made in France, rigid enough to protect the poster in transit
  • Chlorine-free tissue paper to wrap the poster inside the tube, preventing friction and marks
  • Paper shipping labels, no protective plastic envelopes

For textiles, the packaging is just as simple: a recycled paper bag, a cardboard label with the authenticity tag, and that's it.

5. "Les Imparfaites": My Zero-Waste Approach

A Unique Initiative Among Art Poster Publishers

To my knowledge, I am the only one in the art poster world to offer a collection dedicated to pieces with minor flaws. I called it Les Imparfaites.

For every perfect print that comes off the press, a few posters have a minor defect:

  • A slightly creased corner during transport to the workshop
  • A micro-stain on the edge of the margin
  • Slightly misaligned ink during printing (1 to 2 mm)
  • A crease mark on an edge

Rather than throwing them away (as is common practice in printing), I sell them up to 70% off their normal price. The defect is minor, invisible once the poster is hung on the wall, but very real when compared side-by-side with a perfect copy.

This approach allows for giving a second life to posters rejected by my quality control, which would otherwise have been destroyed. In 2025, more than 200 posters have thus avoided the bin thanks to this collection.

What We Don't Do (and we stand by it)

For the sake of transparency, here's what we haven't yet implemented:

  • No carbon offsetting for customer transport: we don't believe in this mechanism whose real benefits are disputed. We prefer to reduce at the source (local production) rather than buy carbon credits.
  • No B Corp label or global CSR certification: the process is costly for a 2-person structure. We prefer to be transparent about our practices rather than pay for a label.
  • No reforestation commitment or "1% for the Planet": we don't want to create a marketing argument from an environmental cause. If we ever donate, it will be discreetly.

Our eco-responsible approach is imperfect but sincere. It improves every year. If you notice anything we could improve, please write to us.
