I drew Carcassonne from above, seeking the angle that gives the city its true silhouette. The one you see from the road, when you arrive from the plain of the \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/foliove.com\/products\/aude-et-ses-flamants-roses\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Aude Poster\" rel=\"noopener\"\u003eAude\u003c\/a\u003e and it suddenly appears, perched on its hill as if the Middle Ages had never truly ended.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal\"\u003eThe \u003cstrong\u003eCity of Carcassonne\u003c\/strong\u003e is the largest medieval fortress in Europe. Its 3 kilometers of ramparts, 52 towers, and two concentric walls have witnessed over 2,500 years of history, from the Romans to the Visigoths, the Cathars to the Crusaders, up to Eugène Viollet-le-Duc who restored it in the 19th century, stone by stone, before it was classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1997.
